Education

Sarah earned her masters degree in Environmental Education from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (2000) and received her baccalaureate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (1996). She is a Certifed Environmental Educator and in 2009, was awarded the NC Outstanding Earth Science Educator Award by the NC Geological Survey. In 2012, she received the Outstanding Service Award from the Environmental Educators of North Carolina (EENC) organization. She serves as the Partnerships Chair on the Board of Directors for EENC.

Sarah works as the Environmental Education Coordinator for the UNC Institute for the Environments Environmental Resource Program. There she engages K-12 teachers, students and other lay audiences in learning about environmental science and health related to research associated with the Institute for the Environment and UNC Superfund Research Program.

Before coming to UNC, Sarah spent almost 6 years working with the NC Office of Environmental Education and Public Affairs, where she supported the efforts of North Carolina teachers to integrate environmental education into their curriculum, including development of the NC Environmental Literacy Plan, numerous teacher professional development programs and the NC Outdoor Classroom Symposium. Sarahs background includes nature center management and residential environmental education programming.
